If you need some extra spending cash for the holidays, it's time to start looking around your house for the recyclables. Don't limit your search to bottles and cans, though. There are lot more recyclable items around your house than you might think. Here are four items you can recycle for much-needed cash during the holidays.
Copper Wire
When it comes to recycling, copper wire is a hot commodity. In fact, you can quite a bit of money from your old copper wire. One of the great things is that you can find it in areas that you might not have thought about. For instance, those old holiday lights can be taken apart for the copper wire. Simply remove the outer plastic covering, and strip away the copper wiring. You can also find copper wire inside old automotive jumper cables, damaged electrical cords, and old air conditioning units. Just be sure that the the protective plastic covering is removed from the wire before you take it down to be recycled at a business like Dabal & Sons Inc.
Cell Phones
If you've got broken cell phones lying around the house, take them back to your phone service provider. Most phone companies will pay you some cash for your old phones. Those phones will then be cleaned up and reused in a variety of worthwhile programs, including providing cell phones for battered women and American military personnel. You'll be making some cash while helping those in need.
Ink Cartridges
If you have an in-home office, you probably go through quite a few ink cartridges. If you've been tossing those ink cartridges in the trash, you've been throwing away money. You can actually save quite a bit of money by either reusing or recycling your old cartridges. First, many office supply stores provide refilling services for your ink cartridges, which means you can continue to use the same cartridges for quite a while. Second, those same office supply stores will recycle the ink cartridges you don't want, and give you some cash at the same time.
Car Batteries
If you've recently replaced the battery in your car and you don't know what to do with the old one, take it down for recycling. Old car batteries can be recycled for cash. If you've recently replaced your radiator, the old unit is recyclable, as well.
Now that the holidays are here, ramp up your recycling efforts. Contact your local recycling center for a list of other items that can be recycled for cash.

After we made a commitment to focus on the environment as a family, we decided that it might make sense to start recycling. We focused carefully on sorting our plastic, metal, and paper, and we were able to completely overhaul how much trash we threw away. Within a few days, we were able to see a reduction in our amount of normal garbage accumulation, and an increase in the amount of materials we were sending in for recycling. It was great to teach our kids what they needed to know to protect the environment. This blog is all about learning how to recycle more effectively.
