A Lot Of Left Over Copper? Information On Recycling It

Blog

If you have a lot of left over copper, you should never simply throw it away. Instead you can recycle the copper, which offers many benefits. Below are three of these benefits, as well as more information on copper recycling.

Benefits of Recycling Copper

The main benefit of recycling copper is it helps the environment. This is because the process of copper being refined and mined wastes gases and produces dust which may affect the environment. While copper is recycled very little gas is emitted. Mostly all copper is recyclable so there is no sense in throwing it away.

Recycling copper also cuts down on landfill costs. Many landfills across the nation are become too large, so new landfills have to be dug. This can result in a large amount of money over time. Recycling copper also offers economic benefits. This is because it is less expensive to recycle old copper when compared to mining and creating new copper.

Recycling copper also helps save energy. It takes energy to extract copper to be used but does not take nearly as much energy to recycle copper. Copper can be reused for many things, such as electrical wiring and cables, plumbing pipes, cookers, washing machines, mobile phones, and much more.

How to Recycle Copper

There are salvage yards that recycle copper, or you can take it to a recycling company. If you choose this, contact the recycling company to make sure they do take copper for recycling. If you take the copper to a salvage yard you will be paid for the copper you give them. How much this is does depend on the salvage yard that you choose. Because of this, check out a few salvage yards in your area to determine which one pays the most. If you have a large amount of copper, you could make quite a bit of money.

To ensure you get the most amount of money for your copper, make sure the copper is clean. For example, clean copper pipes if they are dirty. If you have copper wire, stripe the insulation from the wires before you take the copper to the salvage yard. This may take time, but you will likely make more money if your copper is clean.

Contact the salvage yard that you choose as they can tell you how to separate the copper that you have before you bring it to them. This will save the scrap yard a lot of time and they may refuse to take your copper if it is not separated properly.

Recycling More Effectively

After we made a commitment to focus on the environment as a family, we decided that it might make sense to start recycling. We focused carefully on sorting our plastic, metal, and paper, and we were able to completely overhaul how much trash we threw away. Within a few days, we were able to see a reduction in our amount of normal garbage accumulation, and an increase in the amount of materials we were sending in for recycling. It was great to teach our kids what they needed to know to protect the environment. This blog is all about learning how to recycle more effectively.
